The history of Orange is well described here, but suffice to say that in late 1960s England, a lot of amps were becoming available. Marshall, Hiwatt, and Orange, are three of the more recognized brands, but there were many more (remember Laney, Park, Sound City, Watkins, Selmer, Carlsbro, Vamp, etc?). Other than Orange, most are now either gone or part of some corporate conglomerate, making a multitude of models that do something for everybody, which of course really means they do nothing really good. Why do you think the old models are in such demand? Of course you can buy a "re-issue" for tons of money, but why did they change everything?

 

Cliff Cooper started Orange in 1968 and is still the CEO (imagine that!). Orange Amps represent the finest in British designed amps—boutique amps at affordable pricing. The hand crafted British series are made in England the old fashioned way and the Terror & Crush series are made in Asia (except for the Tiny Terror Hard Wired Edition). Orange takes pride in straight - forward simple schematics that are all about one thing – GREAT Tone. Plug it in and turn it up. The list of present and past users is immense, from AC/DC (Malcolm) to Zep, with practically everybody in between.
